The Key Laboratory of Low-dimensional Quantum Structures and Quantum Control of Ministry of Education, managed by the College of Physics and Information Science of Hunan Normal University, was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2011. The laboratory was founded in 2005 based on the Laboratory of Microstructure Physics and the Laboratory of Modern Optics and Quantum Communication.
The lab director is Prof. Leman Kuang and the academic committee director is academician Sishen Xie. Currently there are 52 members of the lab including 1 winner of the National Science Fund for distinguished young, 3 members of Hunan province lotus scholars, 6 members of Trans-/New Century Excellent Talents in University, 28 professors and 38 doctors. In the last five years, the lab has undertaken many projects from "863" and "973" research plans, the major research plans, and projects from the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and so on. Members in this lab have achieved a series of results that have international influence, and published more than 400 SCI papers on the most influential journal of physics, including 80 papers on Physical Review A-D, more than 50 papers published on SCI journals with Impact Factor larger than 4.
The lab has already constructed 6 research platforms of "Low-dimensional Quantum Structure Growth ", "Morphology and Nanostructure Characterization", "Photo- and Electron Beam lithography Micro-fabrication", "Precision Quantum Transport", "Scanning Probe Microscope", and "Theory and Numerical Simulation Center". These platforms are equipped with more than 10 advanced large-scale instruments, more than 10 large materials growth systems, and a computer cluster system for theoretical calculation and simulation.
The lab focuses on the four main areas of:
- Quantum Coherence and its Manipulation
- Preparation, Assembly and Transport Properties of 1-dimensional Quantum Structures
- Surface Quantum Structures and Catalyst Material
- Photovoltaic materials and surface/interface science and engineering
