Distinguished Guests from Indonesia Visit HNU

On the afternoon of July fourth, Nugroho B. Sukamdani, Chairman of the Sahid Jaya Foundation, and Lian Junwei, Chairman of the Chinese Education Federation in Indonesia, visited Hunan Normal University(HNU). They were warmly received by the HNU president Jiang Hongxin at the NO.2 meeting room of president’s office building. The meeting was chaired by Yang Zhen, director of the Office of Development Planning and Academic Development.


Lian Junwei gave a brief account of the purpose of this visit and the current situation of Chinese education in Indonesia, as well as a review of the good cooperation and strong bond between HNU and the Chinese Education Federation in Indonesia. He wished that, as Chinese education in Indonesia entered into a post-tradition era, the cooperation would be deepened and efforts be put into the exploration on collaborating with enterprises, developing diploma education, and jointly cultivating talents of Hospitality and Tourism Management, law and other majors while ensuring the Chinese Education continued delivering good performance.


Nugroho B. Sukamdani thanked HNU for its warm reception, and introduced Sahid Group. He said that Sahid Group was a hotel group which also provided services of tourism, education and culture. He wished that universities of the Sahid Group and HNU would enter into Joint Education Program and Dual Degree/Joint Degree Programs to cultivate tourism professionals that meet the demand of Indonesian job market.     


Jiang Hongxin extended warm welcome to the guests andbriefed them on HNU and extended his greeting. He pointed out that, as a comprehensive university with the characteristic of teaching training, HNU ranked among the top in terms of Country and Area Studies and other social science areas. On the basis of jointly cultivate talents, both sides may establish a research center for Indonesian and Chinese studies to give full play to the the advantages of both sides and carry out research on hot issues of mutual concern so as to promote the mutual understanding, friendship and cooperation between people of two nations. Therefore, he wished both sides would sign a MOU as soon as possible, to turn the good expectation into reality.


During the meeting, participants discussed in depth about many issues concerning the share of resources, such as Hospitality and Tourism Management, the exchange and training of teachers and students, teaching and research, etc.     


Participants of the meeting include some heads of Sahid Jaya Foundation, Chinese Education Federation in Indonesia, and relevant departments of HNU.



Sahid Group was founded in 1965. After more than 50 years of development, it has covered a wide range of services: hospitality, tourism, real estate, education, culture, medical care and other fields. Its founding father, Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono, had always been committed to promoting Sino-Indonesian friendship. He was an important facilitator of the 1985 direct trade agreement between China and Indonesia and the restoration of diplomatic relations between two nations in 1990. In 1992, he founded the Association of Indonesia-China Economic, Social and Culture Cooperation. In 1994, he was awarded the title of “People's Friendly Envoy” by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries. Sahid Group now has four operating departments: Business and Social Welfare Department, Education, Culture and Religion Department, Health Care, Society and Social Activity Department, and Comprehensive Cooperation Department, which were established in 1977, the Sahid Jaya Foundation was committed to the progress of education and public affairs. The current chairman of it is Nugroho B. Sukamdani. It owns 4 universities, 4 middle schools, 2 vocational schools, an Islamic university and a Koran Training Center.
