Vice President Wang Shanping Headed a Delegation to Visit American Universities

From April 23th to 27th, Wang Shanping, vice president of Hunan Normal University, headed a delegation to visit Purdue University Northwest, State University of New York at Albany and University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at their invitation.

Vice President Wang exchanged ideas with the three universities about educational cooperation, cooperative research and academic visit among teachers, as well as exchange programs for students. Issues like double degree, straight entrance to postgraduate, exchange programs and short-term exchange were also discussed. All sides were willing to cooperate and reached a consensus. The cooperation agreement will be signed and take effect in the near future.

During the visit, Vice President Wang and his delegation were given a warm reception and highly valued by Thomas Keon, president of PUN (Purdue University Northwest), Ralph Mueller and Dallas Kenny, both vice president of PUN. Representatives at all levels from three universities had meetings with our delegation.

The accompanying visitors were Wang Zhaofeng, dean of College of Tourism, Gao Qiju, vice dean of College of Mathematics and Computer Science, Yuan Dongmei, vice dean of Business School.        


Introduction of Purdue University:
Purdue University is a public research university steeped in history, and the founding member of AAU (Association of American Universities), a union of top universities in North America. It has three branch campuses with about 40000 students.        


Purdue University is ranked 18th in the American public colleges, and the 47th in Times Higher Education World University Rankings. College of Engineering is the 6th best in America, and one of the top engineering colleges in the world. In addition, majors of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and Technology, etc, go into the top-ten list in America.        


In March, 2016, Purdue University Calumet and Purdue University North Central merged into Purdue University Northwest. It is the 2nd large campus in Purdue University system, and has 6 colleges: Krannert School of Management, College of Engineering, College of Liberal Arts, College of Health and Human Sciences, College of Science, andHonors College.        


PUN has more than 15,000 students, 1600 staff and 70  undergraduate and postgraduate majors, among which the science and engineering majors are well-known.        


Introduction of State University of New York:
State University of New York is a system of public institutions of higher education in New York, United States, spanning 65 campuses across the state.        


It is the largest higher education system in the world, and the largest and most comprehensive state university system in the United States, with more than 80000 staff and a total enrollment of 470,000 students. Moreover, 70000 students are receiving its distance education online.        


In many branch campuses, SUNY at Buffalo, SUNY at Binghamton, SUNY at Stony brook and SUNY at Albany are the most outstanding research university centers, ranking top university centers in the world.  


State University of New York at Albany was founded in 1844, and has 3 campuses, 10 colleges, 30 undergraduate majors, 22 postgraduate programs and about 18000 students from 83 countries.        


SUNY has many characteristic specialties and strong majors, including business, nanotechnology and engineering, criminal psychology, information system and business analytics, medicine. Nanotechnology and Engineering College is one of the Nano research center and ranks first in the world. Criminal psychology is the second best in America.        


Introduction of University of Massachusetts:
University of Massachusetts is a well-known public university system in America. Started in 1863, it has 5 campuses and ranks 54th in America.        


Founded in 1895, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has 6 colleges, 61 undergraduate majors, 32 postgraduate programs and 4 doctoral programs, with more than 300 staff and 9000 students. It is the only state university in Massachusetts, and the largest university in New England.        


Characteristic specialties are business, polymeric materials and engineering, artificial intelligence, medicine, computer engineering and science, nursing, etc. USNEWS ranked AI of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth as the 8th best in America.
